Kaitalampi is approximately 1200 meters long and 100 meters wide, and is safe to swim in as deemed by a comprehensive survey conducted by the Finnish Environmental Institute in 2008 regarding the quality of water and the environment surrounding Kaitalampi. The water is exceptionally pure from no emissions in the area, and no blue-green algae has been detected in the lake’s water.

The Sport Department of City of Helsinki are the maintainers of the swimming area, and has significantly improved swimming conditions at Kaitalampi, taking into consideration the requests of the open water swimming group. ‘Kaitalampi Open Water’, on the other hand, is the largest community of open water swimmings operating in Finland, with nearly 2000 enthusiasts already involved.

More information about the group can be found on the community’s website: https://kaitalampi-open-water.webnode.fi
